Job Description

Overview Wills and Estates Law Clerk for a mid-size law firm client in North York. Hybrid work arrangement: 2 days remote, 3 days onsite, with free parking. Onsite expectations may change based on client business needs. Base pay range: CA$60,000.00/yr - CA$75,000.00/yr. Target compensation: From $60,000 to $75,000, with some flexibility according to experience, plus benefits. Regular work hours: 7 hours per day, 1 hour lunch break, Monday to Friday (35 hours per week). Responsibilities Draft wills, powers of attorney, and estate planning documents. Prepare and file probate and administration applications. Review and organize estate information, including assets, liabilities, and beneficiary details. Correspond with clients, executors, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and court staff. Manage file deadlines, critical dates, and related documentation with minimal supervision. Prepare estate accounting and reporting, including interim and final accounts. Maintain and organize electronic and physical files in accordance with firm procedures. Work closely with lawyers and clients to ensure smooth and compassionate handling of sensitive matters. Additional law clerk and administrative responsibilities as required. Qualifications Education: Law Clerk Diploma from an accredited institution. Professional Credentials: Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO) Certification. Preferred Work Experience: Approximately 5+ years of experience in Wills and Estates law. Sector Experience: Law firm experience required. Technical and Language Skills: Strong proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and Teams (testing may apply); fast and accurate typing; proficiency with Estateably and Teraview; strong English communication skills; additional language skills are an asset. Task-Based Qualifications and Attributes Strong understanding of Ontario estate procedures and relevant legislation (may be tested). Punctual, responsible, and reliable; demonstrated professional conduct and character. Ability to work with minimal direction, prioritize tasks, and manage volume targets and due dates. Discretion and judgment in handling confidential matters; attention to detail and organized approach. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide range of contacts. Commitment to values of respect, equity, diversity and inclusivity. Additional Requirements Must be legally entitled to work in Canada with satisfactory documentation upon request. Ability to work both remotely and onsite, adhering to health and safety policies. Provide minimum of 2 qualified employment references upon request who can speak with Marberg or Marberg's client.
