The Opportunity Our Nuclear subsector, a key component of WSPs ERI (Energy, Resources and Industry) sector, supports clients in the nuclear industry. Our team offers a wide range of services, including technical and feasibility studies, project management, detailed design, procurement, site management, quality surveillance, commissioning and asset management. This division is operating at an exciting time as nuclear power and new technology solutions are developing globally, with Canada as a leader in nuclear refurbishments, nuclear new builds, incredible capital projects portfolios and a deep history in nuclear supply chain. WSP is currently seeking an experienced Structural Engineer, Nuclear to join one of our Ontario offices. Several projects may require travel to Tiverton, Ontario; Toronto, Ontario; Saint John, New Brunswick; Pickering and Oshawa, Ontario. What youll do Establish design criteria, prepare engineering specifications, design calculations, and material take-offs (MTO) in accordance with project requirements. Support planning, scheduling, and cost control activities in the design as related to the Project Plan. Propose solutions for improving or optimizing processes, programs, and procedures. Assist in resolving complex problems requiring comprehensive and detailed analysis and multi-disciplinary understanding. Contribute to knowledge transfer by providing functional guidance, coaching and peer review to the teams less experienced professionals or technicians. Participate in planning and implementation of large and complex projects requiring innovative solutions. Conduct on-site inspections as required. Detail civil and structural designs, including concrete foundations, piling, and steel structures. Prepare documentation for engineering hours budgets, schedules, work plans, tender documents, technical reports, and project calculations. Assign, instruct, and provide directions to technical support staff. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers and team members. Ensure Quality Assurance, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables. Review and stamp drawings (as required); interpret design codes and regulatory requirements. Check the work of and assist in training less experienced engineering personnel. Communicate with internal peers and project team and respond to questions regarding deliverables. What youll bring to WSP A university degree in Structural Engineering (MSc or PhD would be an asset). Registered as a P.Eng or PE in a Provincial Engineering Association in Canada or the US. 5+ years of experience in civil structural design in the nuclear power plant industry. Ideally experience with power plants, dynamic foundations and/or rotating equipment. Working knowledge of software such as SAP2000, ETABS, S-Frame, STAAD Pro, Dyna6, etc. Experience with Python would be an asset. Good report writing skills. Familiarity with relevant design codes for Concrete and Steel Structures and current Industrial standards. Proficient in MS Office. Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a team player.
