Your Opportunity Our multidisciplinary team in Northern Canada is looking for an energetic Structural Engineer to round out our growing practice across Northern Canada. The North offers work-life balance and opportunities to enjoy outdoor life. Your Key Responsibilities Responsible for projects of medium complexity/size. Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all structural engineered systems or products for a project. Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats. Utilize BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings structural systems and provide markups for junior engineers/designers. Prepare and revise documentation in various structural phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details. Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors. Participate in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating. Assist upper-level staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule. Lead the preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents. Perform and oversee calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software. Utilize advanced techniques for analysis of specialized building elements for wood framed and steel buildings; knowledge of northern foundation types (e.g., ad-freeze, rock socketed piles), thermosyphons, and thermopiles is an asset. Participate in constructability review. Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects. Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group. Work on multiple projects and develop business with new clients. Your Capabilities and Credentials Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes. General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards. Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule. Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought. Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Presentation and interview skills are preferred. Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit; experience with AutoCAD, Newforma, Component Design Software, Comprehensive Building Analysis Software, and structural finite element analysis tools (e.g., RAM Concept, Risa 3D, SAFE) is preferred. Valid drivers license. Education and Experience Ideally 10 years of related work experience, but a minimum of 5 years is required. Bachelors degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering. Licensed Professional Engineer eligible for registration with the Engineers Yukon and Northwest Territories and Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists (NAPEG).
