Foundational to our shared work is the protection, promotion and practice of shshlh culture, language and laws within our swiya. Under the general supervision of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) or designate, the Communications and Marketing Manager works closely with the Management team to develop, positively position, and maintain the shishalh Nations professional image and reputation. The communication objectives will initially be focused on building understanding and support for the Nation, community and its members, as well as influencing positive opinion and behaviour from potential respondents and stakeholders. The Candidate: Strategic Planning Assist with developing communications policies and plans for internal and external communications. Key Tasks: Prepare internal and external communications plans and policies. Monitor the success of plans and recommend updates as required. Develop the shishalh Nation's annual communication plans, objectives, priorities and budget with the necessary approvals. Attend manager meetings and planning sessions when and where requested. Campaigns and Communications Materials Prepare written materials for public awareness campaigns. Maintain a range of publications to meet communications goals. Key Tasks: Identify communication strategies and appropriate communication channels. Responsible for the Nation and affiliated website(s) and social media delivery of products and services. Prepare materials, including brochures, posters, media releases, newsletters, on-hold CDs, promotional products, banners, internet text, etc. Responsible for updating the phone directories and communication newsletter. Issues Management Assist in developing and implementing communications strategies for key issues affecting the Nations image. Key Tasks: Identify activities/events in the market & social research industry that will likely become media issues. Recommend strategies to manage the issues, including identifying appropriate responses and communication channels. Prepare communications materials. Media Relations Maintain and develop links with local and other media outlets to facilitate good communication and ensure fair and accurate coverage of the Nation and the wider community. Key Tasks: Prepare media statements and releases with the necessary approvals. Maintain current contact details of relevant journalists. Respond to media enquiries, coverages and related functions. Establish and maintain contacts with external journalists and communication officers. Marketing and Communications Advice As required, advise the various boards of the Nation and other sub-committees about marketing and communication strategies. Key Tasks: Provide advice on appropriate marketing strategies, including positioning and marketing mix elements. Provide advice on target audiences and the best communication methods. Edit materials prepared by other sub-committees. Events Management Assist in coordinating some market & social research events and advise Nation Members organizing other events. Key Tasks: Assist with coordinating the event, including the guest list, invitations, venue, seating, marquees, catering, sound system, speeches, publicity, etc. Provide advice to Nation staff or committee members organizing an event on the above. Work with the electoral officers about elections and voting. Prepare speeches for the Chief and Council, CAO and any other authorized spokespersons as required. Key Tasks: Write and/or edit speeches. Other duties Other duties within the scope of the position may be allocated by the CAO, Chief and Council. These will be in accordance with the employees range of skills, competence, training and/or experience or be part of a training/development plan. Qualifications, Skills and Abilities: University degree in Public Relations or a related field or a combination of experience and related education. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field. Knowledge of both traditional and digital marketing strategies and tactics. Knowledge of government and community relations would be an asset; maintain effective positive working relations with other employees and community members using effective interpersonal skills. Proficiency in using computers for Microsoft Office Suite, databases, social media platforms, media relations avenues, event planning, advertising and publication strategy skills. Valid drivers license, a current vehicle insurance certificate, and access to reliable transportation. Current Criminal Records Check. #J-18808-Ljbffr
