Overview Friendly Visitor - Mandarin speaker at The Elliott Community . You will provide meaningful social interactions in residents daily lives. The Mandarin speaker opportunity is to provide companionship to a couple of residents in their mother language and support their transition into their new home. Responsibilities Sign in and out using the volunteer computer system Provide companionship and social interaction to residents Interact with residents through conversation, reading, playing cards, etc. Assist residents with small tasks such as opening mail, writing a letter or watering plants Record who you visit and their level of interaction on the form provided by Recreationist Requirements Excellent verbal communication skills Comfortable interacting with seniors Patient, kind and positive Enjoy being part of a team and working effectively with others Benefits Learn and practice social and communication skills Gain experience interacting with seniors Build meaningful relationships with residents of The Elliott Community Orientation & Training provided; facility tour and basic orientation Role-specific training on your first day; ongoing on-the-job training as necessary Joining us Fill out the Volunteer Application Form Attend a brief interview with the Volunteer Coordinator Apply for a vulnerable sector check if you are 18+ and submit it to the Volunteer Coordinator when complete Obtain a 2-step TB skin test Have 2 COVID vaccines as well as the annual flu shot Complete mandatory online training Attend orientation Start volunteering Location: On-site at 170 Metcalfe Street, Guelph, Ontario N1E 4Y3 #J-18808-Ljbffr
