Organizational Description: The Immigrant Centre provides newcomers with free programs and services including settlement, employment, language, nutrition training, and verification of translations. Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer Opportunity ID: 5229 Description of Duties: Position Goal To help permanent residents prepare for the Canadian Citizenship Test Summary This position requires a commitment to facilitate six 2-hour classes on the Discover Canada Guide, which covers topics such as Canadian history, modern Canada, and the Canadian government. Contents of the Discover Canada Guide can be viewed here. Experience facilitating classes or workshops using Zoom (for online classes) Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint Experience teaching Canadian History or Social Studies is an asset In-depth knowledge of Canada's history, geography, and government Ability to work with individuals from diverse ethnocultural backgrounds Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work with adult learners with low to intermediate level English skills Skills Gained/Related Careers: Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+ Time Commitment: Daytime , Evening , Weekend , Remote Volunteering Classes are online via Zoom or in-person at the Immigrant Centre One day a week for 6 weeks or twice weekly for 3 weeks Evening classes can be on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00. Saturday classes can be mornings from 10:00 - 12:00 or afternoons from 1:00 - 3:00. Location of volunteer opportunity: Winnipeg Does opportunity require a criminal record check?
