Overview CAMH has multiple career opportunities. The Clinical Care Program Unit 7 (Womens Inpatient Unit) is seeking a full-time, permanent Team Lead. The Team Lead reports to the Manager and collaborates with the Clinical Care Program practice leadership group to anticipate unit needs and coordinate client/patient-centered care in alignment with CAMHs vision and strategic directions. The role includes communications and liaison for admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointments during the assigned shifts and future shifts, with a focus on high-quality and safe service delivery. The Team Lead ensures clear nurse/patient assignments, records adherence to unit processes and CAMH standards, coordinates breaks and activities, and monitors unit needs and staffing to respond to changing conditions. The incumbent will link new staff with unit resources and facilitate orientation, coordinate student involvement with discipline-specific staff, and support participation in off-unit meetings and educational events. The role may carry a patient assignment dependent on unit milieu and staffing and will be based at the Queen Street Site on a regular day shift. Responsibilities Coordinate and assign admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointments during the shift and future shifts. Facilitate service delivery to maintain high standards of quality and safety; ensure nurse/patient assignments reflect accountability for care and accurate record-keeping. Coordinate and assign breaks, break coverage, close observations and client activities off the unit as required; monitor unit needs and advocate for staffing changes as needed. Onboard and connect new staff (Nursing Resources Unit staff, new graduates, agency staff) with unit resources and orient them to unit procedures/processes. Collaborate with clinical supervisors/preceptors to assign appropriate staff to educate and supervise students of all disciplines in unit procedures and client care. Engage in off-unit meetings/training and facilitate nursing coverage for clients during events such as Nursing Practice Council and Education Rounds. Coordinate unit clinical rounds/forums (e.g., morning rounds, team huddles, unit debriefs) and care conferences; manage shift report per CAMH standards and ensure effective communication within the unit and with other service areas. Ensure census/unit reports are accurate and prepare bed flow and transfer-of-care reports as required. Contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, teamwork, and adherence to standards; participate in development, implementation and evaluation of best practices to advance nursing and client care. Qualifications Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and a current BCLS (CPR) certificate. Prefer candidates who possess or are pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. At least two years (or 3900 hours) of clinical experience in mental health and addictions, with emphasis on forensic populations with high needs. Strong leadership in problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, negotiation, communication, delegation, critical thinking, team building and interpersonal skills. Ability to think program-level and contribute to unit-level and organization-wide change initiatives; effective written and verbal communication; understanding of interdisciplinary roles. Demonstrated commitment to a safety culture for staff, clients, families and visitors, in line with CAMH and regulatory standards.
