Overview Field Tech Apprentice - Electrical Testing - Spring 2026 is an entry-level position for individuals seeking hands-on experience in power transmission and distribution. This role involves inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical systems, including low, medium, and high voltage equipment. The Field Tech Apprentice will receive comprehensive training to develop skills to work independently as a field technician. Responsibilities Under supervision of a lead tech or supervisor, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and collect data on low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (up to 500 kV). Perform testing and maintenance on switchgear and circuit breakers. Inspect, maintain, test, and repair transformers (45 KVA to 130 MVA), circuit breakers, and related equipment (including dry type and oil-filled). Maintain, test, recondition, and repair circuit breakers (low voltage 480V, medium voltage up to 15 kV). Work with SF6-filled equipment and gas-insulated switchgear. Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations. Operate high voltage test equipment, including Doble Power Factor test sets. Start-up, troubleshoot, and repair controls and transfer schemes. Participate in emergency on-call duty rotations and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner. Ensure all work complies with regulatory laws and safety standards. Complete other duties as assigned by the manager. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. No prior field experience required; technical school in electrical systems or related field is preferred. Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NEC, NFPA is preferred but not required. Basic understanding of electricity and strong willingness to learn. Ability to work safely and adhere to electrical safety procedures. Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with customers and team members. Strong organizational and time management skills. Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of experienced technicians. Strong computer skills, Microsoft Office, and internet research. For positions requiring company vehicle use, a valid drivers license is required.
