Job Description

Overview Assistant Professor - Philosophy, Digital Futures. The Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary invites applications for a three-year limited term position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Anticipated start date: July 1, 2026. This position aligns with the Faculty of Arts' strategic priority area of digital futures. Areas of research include the philosophy of artificial intelligence and large language models, the ethics of digital privacy and surveillance, the epistemology of groups and communities, misinformation, and the impact of big data on science and society. Responsibilities Maintain an active research program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching. Develop new courses and offer graduate seminars; supervise graduate students in area(s) of research expertise. Teaching assignment typically four courses per year for research-teaching stream faculty. Qualifications PhD in philosophy or on track to receive one no later than July 1, 2026. Demonstrated research excellence with publications in high-quality journals, peer-reviewed presentations, and a writing sample. Record of teaching excellence with materials, student outcomes, teaching evaluations, and/or pedagogical development. Desire to engage in public-facing and community-engaged scholarship.
