The Department of Families is currently seeking skilled and motivated individuals to fill various Child and Family Service Worker (Case Worker) positions. Winnipeg Child and Family Services (WCFS) provides a comprehensive continuum of child protection and family support services in Winnipeg in accordance with The Child and Family Services Act and The Adoption Act. Responsibilities Winnipeg Child and Family Services partners with community resources to provide supportive and preventative services to families; provides protection services to children at risk of abuse and neglect; develops and provides basic and specialized placement services to meet the needs of children in care; provides preservation and reunification services to families; and provides adoptive and post-adoptive services along with guardianship responsibilities to children, youth and families when reunification is no longer an option. Must have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Drivers license and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel on government business within the Province of Manitoba. Qualifications Essential: Post secondary degree in social sciences (preferably BSW). Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada. Applicants submitting foreign credentials require an official academic assessment report issued by a recognized Canadian assessment service. Ability to identify signs of child abuse and neglect. Effective interpersonal skills to develop positive working relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders. Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize complex tasks/assignments in a high volume work environment with competing demands. Excellent problem solving and decision making skills. Effective written communication skills to write clear and concise correspondence to a variety of audiences including detailed reports. Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate or deliver difficult messages or information to clients. Ability to work independently. Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word and Outlook). Desired: Case management experience (including intakes, assessments, service coordination, counselling, and monitoring) in a social service setting, course practicum experience in a social service setting and/or knowledge of case management. Experience working in a child and family services agency or social services agency. Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act. Knowledge and understanding of child development. Duties Reporting to the Unit Supervisor, the Child and Family Services Worker (case manager) is responsible for the full range of statutory child welfare services to families and children. The position establishes and maintains effective working relationships with individuals and families, and service providers often under difficult circumstances.
