Responsibilities Reporting to the Technician Supervisor, Automotive Sciences in the School of Transportation, the position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and operations of lab/shop spaces. The position will also deliver technical lessons in the lab/shop environment independently, under the guidance of instructors, using rubrics and assessment tools provided by instructors to evaluate students. Maintain and calibrate lab/shop equipment Ensure lab security Manufacture specialized items when required Ensure work area is safe and clean Liaise with other sections or programs when required Inventory And Budget Control Maintain consumables and inventory of equipment Obtain quotes when ordering new equipment Catalogue equipment manuals and technical literature Instructional Support Independently, and/or team teach, deliver in-lab/shop technical activities/lessons Evaluate students based on existing rubrics and assessment tools, provided by instructors, and provide feedback Supervise students independently Demonstrate lab/shop equipment Prepare, setup and dismantle lab/shop exercises Assist or perform demonstrations of equipment under supervision Ensure knowledge of related equipment, including use and application Assist instructional staff in ensuring safe and correct use of equipment Assist instructors in developing new lab/shop exercises Student Support Provide tutorial/remedial support Assist students in developing and executing technical projects with other staff Ensure students work in a safe condition Other duties as assigned Skills & Abilities Strong oral & written communication Strong interpersonal skills Strong time management & organizational skills Initiative and ability to work independently Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted Ability to work flexible hours and assignments Qualifications Trades certification and/or related technical diploma and completion of Red Seal 5 - 8 years post-journeyperson completion Class 5 driver's license required Forklift training an asset Man-lift training an asset Fall Arrest training an asset Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS). Remuneration : $59,603.44 - $79,497.34 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification Instructional Assistant II).
