Overview Intermediate Hydropower Engineer Structural or Mechanical role at Stantec. Our hydro team seeks a colleague who understands client needs and can align them with Stantecs service offerings. Our hydro team values a seller/doer approach with experience in design, construction and/or operation of dams, spillways, intake structures, water conveyances and powerhouses, and associated equipment (gates, valves, turbine-generator units, balance of plant). Location flexibility with options for working from home or office in Dartmouth, NS; Atlantic offices (Fredericton, NB; Moncton, NB; St. Johns, NL) are also possible. Some travel to client sites may be required. Key Responsibilities Observe and embody safety and quality culture. Develop solutions to a variety of engineering problems involving hydropower structures or equipment with high-level guidance on approach and execution. Perform field support during installation and construction, monitoring for quality control and conformance with design specifications. Prepare written communications regarding design basis, option analyses, schedule and cost estimating. Develop design drawings and technical specifications for construction and installation services. Motivate the team to work collaboratively and mitigate conflicts. Assist in resource management processes, recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching and mentoring. Understand skills and opportunities for collaboration across Stantecs business lines in Canada and support international collaboration when required. Assess project complexity and align with appropriate scope of work, level of effort, and staffing. Improve Effectiveness Collaborate with Project Engineers and Project Managers in planning, design, and preparation of drawings, technical specifications, and capital cost estimates for various projects. Communicate with team members and align with Stantec standards. Contribute to development and execution of sector business strategy. Meet HSSE goals and targets. Communicate effectively across the corporate hierarchy. Understand project management principles and apply them according to Stantecs 10-Step process. Apply our risk review process appropriately. Scale administrative processes to project size and identify opportunities for improvement. Grow Business Support local business development pursuits. Balance time on projects with pursuit and positioning of new opportunities. Understand hydro industry dynamics and stakeholders. Communicate comfortably with clients across their hierarchy; occasional site travel may be required. Know existing clients, their needs, and staff. Maintain client relationships aimed at satisfaction and repeat business. Identify where Stantec can add value for clients. Promote Brand Know and relate to relevant utilities, industry associations, academic institutions, and training programs. Articulate Stantecs differentiators and client benefits. Your Capabilities and Credentials Engineering degree in structural or mechanical engineering from an accredited university. Post-graduate degree is an asset. Professional designation in at least one Canadian Province (P.Eng.). Minimum of 10 years experience with hydroelectric facilities, preferably in a consulting engineering or utility environment. Knowledge of engineering analysis and design software; proficient with Microsoft Office. Project management experience with strong organizational and communication skills on small-to-medium multi-disciplinary projects. Position offers flexibility with working from home and/or office attendance in Dartmouth, NS. Affiliation with nearby Atlantic offices is possible. Occasional client-site travel may be required. Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided where required. Final compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and location. Some roles are bonus eligible.
