For more information visit our website at Simon & Schuster Canada is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and results-driven Publicist to join our growing team on a contract basis. This role is a full-time, hybrid (2-3 days in office) contract position, with a prorated salary based on the duration of the contract. It is anticipated that this contract will last approximately 12-14 months. The ideal candidate is passionate about books, a collaborative team player, and highly motivated, with a minimum of 2 years experience working in a publicity capacity. Reporting directly to the Director of Publicity, the Publicist will be responsible for planning and executing publicity campaigns and events for books on the adult lists, ranging from commercial and literary fiction, to non-fiction. Primary Responsibilities Develop and maintain strong relationships with key media, booksellers, festival directors and influencers Develop and implement title-specific publicity campaigns for books and authors Write press materials, pitch and secure media coverage (broadcast, print, online) including cover reveals, book announcements, feature interviews, reviews & round-ups in national and local media Build strong relationships with authors and agents and ensure communication as it relates to publicity efforts Work closely with in-house departments including editorial, marketing and sales in Canada and the US Conceptualize and execute in-person and virtual author events across Canada to engage readers and increase discoverability Escort authors to events, tradeshows, conferences as required; ability to attend evening and weekend events, and to travel are a must Qualifications Minimum 2+ years experience in book publicity or a related field, ideally within the Canadian or international publishing or media industry Strong interest in book publishing, specifically publicity and media relations Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills Adaptable, resourceful and proactive problem-solver who enjoys a fast-paced environment Experience working on successful media campaigns Demonstrated ability to lead and/or assist with events Strong awareness of social media platforms and digital marketing trends Must have good time management skills, be organized and detail-oriented, and be capable of multi-tasking Have the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, work independently, and demonstrate good follow-up and follow-through Publishing diploma or equivalent publishing experience is an asset, though not required Simon & Schuster Canada is an equal opportunity employer (EOE) including disability/vet.
