Your Opportunity: Are you a compassionate and experienced Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) eager to make a difference in the lives of patients experiencing cancer? Are you looking to evolve your clinical skills while being part of a dedicated and dynamic team of clinicians? We are seeking a SLP to join our team in a casual role as part of the inpatient Rehabilitation Oncology program at the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre (ACCC). Under the Managers general supervision, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will: Assess and treat speech and swallowing difficulties related to cancer, cancer surgeries, and treatments. Support patients in improving communication, swallowing, and overall quality of life. Develop and implement personalized therapy plans based on individual patient needs. Educate patients and their families on strategies to manage swallowing challenges. Collaborate with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated, patient-centered care. Manage and triage referrals through electronic medical records and provide coverage across inpatient and outpatient settings. Participate in case management, discharge planning, and transitions of care to support continuity. Create and contribute to patient education resources. Provide education and consultation to peers, students, and interdisciplinary teams. Engage in quality improvement and research initiatives to advance SLP practice locally and provincially. Maintain ongoing professional development in oncology and palliative care. Join a collaborative team that values interprofessional teamwork, continuous learning, and self-care. The ideal candidate for this position is available to work at least 1-2 shifts per week (Monday to Friday, no weekends) between the hours of 0800-1630 to support orientation, staff education and caseload coverage. Description: As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA). Additional Required Qualifications: Active Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS certification. Minimum 2 years working with adult populations in inpatient or outpatient urban acute care or rehabilitation setting(s). Experience in the past twelve (12) months with referral triage and caseload management. Experience in the last two years working with an adult oncology population. Able to independently perform videofluroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) (e.g. modified barium swallow) and/ or fiberoptic endscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) as per AHS SLP standards of practice. Able to independently identify and manage conflict situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Effective self-management and time management skills paired with initiative. Demonstrated ability to work within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals. Demonstrated aptitude for performing in an environment of continuous change and learning Experience with clinical software including Nuance PS360 and electronic medical record platforms (Connect Care, ARIA, SCM) Intermediate computer skills including use of Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience working with adults in urban inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, including a minimum of two years with adult Head and Neck cancer patients and one year in adult palliative care. MBSImP and EPIC Connect Care training are preferred, along with experience in the Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) program.
