This is specialized research work involving the application of moderately advanced research and analytical techniques to support criminal investigative activities and the development of detachment projects and programs. An employee of this class collects, evaluates, analyzes, and interprets a wide variety of investigative and intelligence data and information; monitors and identifies crime patterns, trends, and other factors; participates and provides analytical support in the development of projects and programs; prepares reports and recommendations based upon analysis; and establishes and maintains liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts. An incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgement and action in carrying out assignments, discussing unusual, more complex or policy issues with a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of quality of services rendered and achievement of desired results. Performs related work as required. Responsibilities Apply moderately advanced research and analytical techniques to support criminal investigative activities and the development of detachment projects and programs. Qualifications University graduation in criminology, economics, geography, mathematics or related discipline; preferably supplemented by completion of a forensic investigation diploma at a technical institute; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of research, statistical and analytical principles, practices, procedures, methods and techniques such as mapping. Knowledge of the criminal justice system; police information systems and related computer applications (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of other programs such as PRIME, ArcGIS, IBM i2 Analysts Notebook, Tableau, JUSTIN, CORNET, CPIC, GeoTime is considered assets. Experience with sourcing and providing written reports and recommendations based on analysis of complex information. Ability to perform detailed research and analytical tasks, interpret statistical and narrative data, and prepare forecasts and reports; present conclusions and recommendations in writing and orally. Flexibility to adapt to changing work priorities and operate under tight time constraints. Drivers License for the Province of British Columbia. Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance; pass EDCAS Analyst exam; and obtain/maintain RCMP Top Secret Security Clearance.
