Position Title: Senior Manager, Environment and Community Consultation Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Accountabilities and Key Functions This position manages environmental permitting and compliance for projects across Canada and the United States, supporting the Managing Director of Environment and Community Consultation and collaborating closely with Development & Originations, Construction, Engineering, Finance, and Operations teams. The role ensures regulatory alignment through consultant oversight, internal reporting, and agency liaison, while also contributing to strategic initiatives such as due diligence, EMS development, and stakeholder engagement. Role & Responsibilities: Prepare RFPs for environmental work, review submissions, and support the selection of environmental consultants and construction monitors. Oversee and review documents (e.g., environmental assessments and permit applications) prepared by consultants for accuracy, clarity, and completeness. Author environmental reports for internal use and for regulatory agencies (e.g., Environmental Protection Plans, responses to provincial PPA RFPs, audit reports). Manage data collection and submission to meet environmental permits, approval, and reporting requirements. Coordinate and oversee environmental monitors and collaborate with construction teams to ensure regulatory compliance and implementation of mitigation measures. Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and policies. Liaise with regulatory agencies regarding permitting, reporting, investigations, and compliance negotiations. Supervise consultants conducting postconstruction mortality or reclamation monitoring for operational sites. Oversee the development and/or implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS) and Standard Operating Procedures. Perform detailed environmental due diligence on projects prior to acquisition. Organize and prioritize multiple tasks effectively to meet project and internal deadlines. Collaborate with the Project Management Office and Project Managers on scheduling, budgeting, and permitting updates. Mentor less experienced team members on their assigned tasks and their professional development goals. Lead and coordinate public meetings and open houses, including preparation of consultation materials and reports. Ensure environmental compliance of operating projects with regulatory requirements and EMS. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Bachelors or Masters Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Management, or a related field. 7+ years of experience managing environmental permitting, preferably for renewable energy projects, in consulting or development companies. Strong understanding of environmental policy, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements for large renewable energy projects in Canada (and US), with the ability to quickly adapt to new jurisdictions. Knowledge of environmental impacts and mitigation strategies for construction and postconstruction phases of wind, solar and battery storage (BESS) projects. Experience with Ontarios renewable energy permitting under O. Reg. 359/09 is an asset. Familiarity with Species at Risk Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act, and other federal/provincial legislation relevant to natural heritage assessments and permits. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences including executives, clients, contractors, regulators, Indigenous communities, and the public. Strong organizational, analytical, and multitasking skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage time in a highvolume, deadlinedriven environment. Exceptional attention to detail. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Outlook. Familiarity with Copilot tools is an asset. Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time. Minimum Qualifications At least 10 years of experience in environmental permitting, including 7+ years managing approvals and securing permits (preferably for renewable energy projects).
