Lead Inspector, Pipe Mill, Coating and Welding (Canada) Intertek is searching for a Lead inspector pipe mill, coating and welding to join our Technical Inspection Service team in Canada. As a Lead Inspector you will be responsible for providing assistance to Client in the overall monitoring, surveillance and / or supervision of the facilities pipe activities and the procedures necessary for achieving the desired levels of quality as it pertains to the project. The Lead Inspector is responsible for performing visual inspection of materials and / or fabricated equipment at vendor shops or on-site fabrication or testing facilities. The ideal candidate must be well versed in quality control inspections and tests, including nondestructive testing techniques, mechanical testing, dimensional inspection, pressure testing, and coating inspections. This position will travel at least 50% of the time. Shift / Schedule All inspectors are utilized on an Ad hoc basis and are not provided daily duties. All needs are based on our clients needs, and we source inspectors based on availability, location, taxonomy approvals, and specific client requests. What you will do Participate in project meetings as needed. Supervise inspectors on a day-to-day basis to ensure effective utilization and timely verification of the project quality objectives. Coordinate the flow of information between the inspectors and other including client, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors as appropriate. Witness testing, perform verifications, and monitor project activities. Routinely conduct facility walkthroughs and report on findings. Review surveillance reports and request technical assistance if specific or quality problems are indicated. Assess / Audit contractor, subcontractor, and vendor activities to ensure effective execution of the quality assurance programs and plans. Coordinate surveillance plans and assist Client in scheduling the appropriate engineering specialists to ensure their participation where necessary to achieve the desired level of quality. Assist in the development of Client surveillance and inspection staff to monitor implementation of the contractors quality assurance program and plan. Compile information relating to contractor, subcontractor, or vendor quality, which can be used to support changes in their quality assurance programs, plans, and procedures. Report the status of the contractors, subcontractors, or vendors overall quality assurance program to Client and its specific effectiveness on the project. Provide coordination and assistance as requested by Client. Prepare and issue inspection report. Lead and monitor piping and coating inspectors duties. Responsibilities Lead or supervise team coating and pipe mill inspectors, overseeing their daily activities and ensuring proper procedures are followed. Perform both visual inspections and hands-on testing of pipe coatings, including before, during, and after application. Maintain meticulous records of inspection results, ensuring all data is accurately documented and reported. Guarantee that all protective coatings and welding are applied according to the project's specifications and industry standards. Identify and troubleshoot coating defects, providing guidance on remedial actions and re-inspection. Ensure all work, especially when dealing with hazardous materials like lead-based paint, is performed safely and in compliance with regulations. Versed on different types of pipe coatings, most common manufacturing styles of Pipe such Seamless and ERW (Electric Resistance Welding), HFI, SAW, DSAW, Spiral; and advantages / disadvantages of different Pipemanufacturing processes SMLS vs ERW. As a lead inspector, leadership and communication skills are vital for managing a team and coordinating with project managers and clients. Expertise in safety regulations, especially concerning lead hazards and other potentially toxic materials, is a major component of the role. Health, Safety and Environmental System Be aware of company policies and procedures with respect to Health, Safety and Environmental issues with respect to office-based and field personnel. Ensure the implementation of company policies / procedures and any applicable legislative regulations with respect to H S & E. Ensure the documented investigation and follow up of any reported incidents to a satisfactory conclusion. Minimum Requirements & Qualifications Prefer at least ten (10) years pipe mill inspection experience and preferable some history working for TC Energy performing pipe production surveillance. Familiar with / able to interpret and understand a) national codes and standards and b) specifications, drawings, and data sheets as they are related to multi-discipline construction and / or pipe projects. Received high school / GED or higher education. Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension). Proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with email and internet communication systems. Ability to work well with others, multi-task, and is detailed oriented. Preferred Requirements & Qualifications Certifications from organizations such as the AMPP (including legacy NACE and SSPC certifications). Salary Information The hourly wage for this position is $60.00 - $80.00 per hour. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Good interpersonal and demonstrated communication skills, both verbally and written.
