Summary of the Role Reporting to the Corporate Controller/Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing a broad range of accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information in accordance with GAAP and Canadian tax regulations. The role involves preparing financial reports, supporting audits, maintaining general ledgers, and collaborating with crossfunctional teams to ensure efficient processes. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying process improvements, while also mentoring junior staff and supporting operational finance activities. Key Responsibilities Administer office operating practices such as record keeping systems, forms control and office layout. Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Generate financial reports highlighting key performance indicators, trends, and variances. Prepare budgets and forecasts for applicable companies under scope. Ensure timely and accurate filing for HST, EHT, and source deductions. Monitor and support compliance with taxation requirements. Stay current with changes in accounting standards and implement necessary updates. Manage accounting and reporting for various real estate holdings using QuickBooks. Ensure accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and expenses. Coordinate and support external audits, including preparation of working papers and responses to auditor inquiries. Maintain strong internal controls. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy. Work closely with the finance team to ensure a collaborative and seamless working environment. Assist in maintaining company programs such as the Fleet Fuel card and Visa card programs. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Key Requirements, Experience And Skills Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation or enrollment considered an asset. Proven experience as a Senior Accountant or similar role, with strong knowledge of GAAP, corporate tax, and HST. Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, specialized service software) and Microsoft Excel/Word. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to convey complex information clearly. Professional, positive attitude with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Attributes Strong analytical, mathematical, and problemsolving skills. Highly organized and detailoriented. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
