Job Description

Manager of Sustainability, Energy & Environmental Planning The North Vancouver School District invites applications for a Manager of Sustainability, Energy & Environmental Planning. The role is responsible for managing a broad range of sustainability, energy and environmental planning activities within the district. Core Function The Manager is tasked with advancing the districts Sustainability Strategy, Strategic Energy Management Plan, and a range of behavioral change initiatives that create a culture of sustainability across 2.1 million square foot facilities. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and implementation of a systematic, process-oriented energy management program that delivers sustainable energy savings. Maintain the districts Strategic Energy Management Plan (SEMP) and deliver quarterly reports to BC Hydro, ensuring continuous improvement across properties. Liaise with internal stakeholdersmaintenance, capital projects, ICT, purchasing, and operationsto integrate energy efficiency into everyday practice. Work with BC Hydro and Fortis BC to obtain incentive funding for energy efficiency projects. Lead the development and implementation of the districts Sustainability Strategy, including initiatives related to organizational policies, educational programming, and facilities. Chair the Sustainability Strategy Implementation Team, identify indicators, targets, timelines, and budgets, and report progress to senior leadership and the Board of Education. Promote sustainability initiatives among other school districts and public-sector organizations. Manage BC Carbon Neutral Government activities, track greenhouse gas emission data, complete annual Carbon Neutral Action Reporting, coordinate carbon offset purchases, and lead carbon reduction initiatives required by the GHG Reduction Targets Act. Manage the districts energy management information system (PUMA) and monitor monthly energy performance. Monitor water consumption and solid waste data and report progress against organizational targets. Participate in the annual operation and maintenance budget process and monitor spending against the approximately $1.8M utility budget. Develop energy and sustainability project submissions for the annual capital intake process, utilizing asset management data, Long Range Facility Plan, work order history, site inspections, and consultant reports. Lead the BC Hydro Continuous Optimization program for all secondary schools. Oversee energy retrofit projects to ensure they are completed on time and on budget. Support and direct environmental stewardship initiatives by providing technical guidance to staff. Work closely with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to develop and support school-specific sustainability initiatives such as energy reduction campaigns, and activities related to transportation, water, and waste. Training And Experience Requirements Bachelors degree in engineering, architecture, or building science. Certified Energy Manager (CEM). Minimum of five years of relevant experience in building design, construction practices, HVAC and DDC systems, building commissioning, energy analysis, water efficiency, renewable energy, financial analysis, policy development, carbon accounting, and green building ratings such as LEED for existing buildings.
