Purpose of the Position As the Supervisor of Signals and Communications (S&C), you will ensure the safe and reliable operation of S&C equipment and systems, supporting the secure and efficient movement of trains and related equipment. Your responsibilities will include conducting electrical and mechanical tests on S&C equipment, inspecting and commissioning new installations or modifications to existing S&C systems, and compiling the necessary data for affidavit submissions. Position Accountabilities Mentor and coach junior S&C employees by delivering technical support and cultivating expertise, contributing to enhanced team capability and ongoing improvements in workplace safety Supply and maintain updated information to Head Office for Industry Canada radio base station licensing Identify and troubleshoot radio interference affecting CPKC radio systems to maintain dependable communication throughout rail operations Perform and report on electrical and mechanical testing of signals and communication equipment (both in service and spares) Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date records of S&C equipment, installations and the testing and revisions performed on them (e.g., Configuration Management 10East) Coordinate activities to coincide with those of the maintenance and construction workforce to maximize overall productivity and efficiency Collaborate proactively with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders, such as local municipal governments, Radio Amateurs of Canada, Transport Canada and other railroads, to ensure system compliance and resolve any issues efficiently Maintain and update the S&C Alerts database, ensure accurate documentation of field action taken and promote robust recordkeeping processes Oversee daytoday operations at the Radio Shop, manage workflows, prioritize work activities, and sustain operational excellence Monitor expenditures and have responsibility for labor and material elements of Operations and Maintenance (O/M) budgets and ensure that all S&C Maintenance charges are properly allocated to appropriate accounts Position Requirements High school diploma or general equivalency; an electronics technology degree/certification from an accredited technical institute is a value add Minimum of 2 years of combined experience in signal construction and maintenance in the railroad industry Must have a valid drivers license Demonstrated understanding of VoiceoverInternetProtocol (VoIP), fiberoptic network and telecom carrier systems Knowledge and comprehension of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Collective Agreement would be considered an asset Strong understanding of CPKCs Red Book requirements, required practices, standard plans, and signal equipment & principals Proven ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and successful information exchange Leadership and strong interpersonal skills What CPKC Has to Offer Flexible and competitive benefits package Competitive company pension and/or retirement plans Employee share purchase plan Performance incentive plan Annual fitness subsidy Parttime studies program Preemployment Requirements This is a safetysensitive position and a successful preemployment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required.
