About the FDA Tobacco Inspection Program Established in 2010, the FDA Tobacco Inspection Program is comprised of nine inspectors statewide. These positions are project positions funded through May 2030 with eligibility for continued funding through a federal request for proposal application process. Key Responsibilities Analyze and interpret written and oral information, including statements and documents, to plan and conduct tobacco inspections in compliance with state and federal guidelines. Identify potential conflicts and resolve issues before they arise; consult with staff and external entities to develop solutions. Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and schedule underage purchasers (Investigative Aides 1820) to assist with compliance checks for tobacco, vapor, liquor, and cannabis. Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and supervise Investigative Aides 1617 for the FDA Program, ensuring safety protocols are followed. Use computer software (Microsoft Office, TIMS, DocuSign, electronic notebook, Department of Revenue licensing system) to manage inspection data. Communicate findings in written reports, letters, and testimony to accurately disseminate information. Collect, process, and securely store evidence obtained during compliance checks. Organize inspection workload to maximize efficiency and keep inspections within established timelines. Manage resources, scheduling, and coordination of FDA Inspectors, Investigative Aides, and other staff. Coordinate with divisional field management to streamline tobacco inspection activities. Maintain knowledge of federal and state legislative issues and develop or coordinate changes to RCW and WAC rules under the direction of the FDA Program Coordinator. Perform routine vehicle maintenance, including monthly safety checks, car washes, mileage reporting, and damage control. Required Qualifications Six (6) years of experience including planning, policy analysis, coordination, and consultation with public and private agencies, organizations, or levels of government; **OR** An Associates degree and four (4) years of experience in the same areas; **OR** A Bachelors degree and two (2) years of experience in the same areas.
