General Overview Based on the direction and oversight of the Vice President, Mining engineering and Evaluations, Kinterra is looking for a Mining Engineer to lead and shape the underground mining evaluation and value creation process for (i) due diligence on potential acquisitions, (ii) identification of value creation opportunities and mitigation of risks for new and existing assets, including incorporation of mining considerations into financial models and analysis, and (iii) mining and technical assistance for Kinterras portfolio companies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the technical subject matter, effective leadership abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement. Role-Specific Accountabilities Complete Project Evaluation Reviews: Review, interpret, and evaluate a variety of base and battery metals assets to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and risks for each asset from a mining engineering perspective. Review and evaluate capital and operating costs for mining projects. Communicate with external parties, including management of consultants and counterparties through the diligence process. Incorporate mining considerations, program costs and timelines into financial models. Consolidate information and make informed recommendations to the Investment Committee regarding assets under management and opportunities undergoing due diligence. Create Value and Minimize Risk: Evaluate and optimize underground mine plans and recommend improvements for mining techniques, cost efficiency, and productivity. Develop budget and timing for mining tradeoff studies for portfolio companies. Act as Kinterras underground mining engineering expert on the technical committees advising portfolio companies. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success, including collaboration with other Kinterra technical subject matter experts. Act as a technical resource for the organization, providing guidance on underground mining engineering issues, benchmarking, and best practices. Develop and implement project management best practices to ensure project timelines and budgets are met. Establish Systems to Increase Compliance Excellence: Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements related to mining engineering. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices. Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelors degree in mining engineering or related field. Masters degree an asset. Minimum of 5 years of experience in underground mining engineering. Strong knowledge of underground mining engineering related to base metals or lithium preferred. Experience with optimization, design and scheduling for long hole stoping, cut and fill, or room and pillar mining methods. Strong knowledge of mining software such as Deswik or Vulcan, project and process evaluation, capital, and operating cost benchmarking. Strong leadership and project management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think critically and make datadriven decisions. Understanding of safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements related to mining engineering. Spanish and/or French written and oral language fluency would be an asset.
