With more than 60,000 structures completed throughout our 135+ year history, we have the global expertise and strategically-located operations to provide customers world-class storage solutions for even the most complex energy infrastructure projects.OverviewThe Senior Plate Structures Designer is responsible for utilizing 2D and/or 3D CAD skills, CB&I engineering and drafting templates and tools to produce and/or check design deliverables; including drawings and bills of material for plate structures and associated foundations, structural, and piping associated with CB&Is products and services. The role includes working in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment where speed and accuracy is essential. The Senior Plate Structures Designer is expected to work independently with minimal supervision and may be asked to train or supervise the work of less experienced designers on specific tasks. The role directly reports to the Project Engineering Lead and routinely interacts with other Plate Structures Designers, Plate Structures Engineers and Managers.ResponsibilitiesAccurately produce assigned detail drawings for customer approval, fabrication, and/or construction per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications.Ensure drawing details are safe for field erection and use, with constructability in mind.Reliably check and sign off on detail drawings for customer approval, fabrication, and/or construction per applicable design code, company standards and customer drawings and specifications.Compare detail drawings and bills of material to as-sold estimate and advise project team of discrepancies and potential changes.Run programs to produce and check detail drawings and bills of material.Forecast how long it will take to do a task - commit to definitive deadlines.Provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to less experienced plate structures designers.Make decisions on project-specific details and advise project team.Generate improvement ideas for tools and workflow associated to the role.Effectively use document management system.Effectively use project team or department collaboration and productivity apps and tools.Local RequirementsMay be required to train at the Niagara-on-the-Lake office for a period of timeQualifications7+ years of relevant experience.Post secondary degree or diploma required - preferably in Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering or TechnologyProficient in 2D and/or 3D CAD using platforms such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.Knowledgeable of steel detailing practices and applicable standard industry conventions.Possesses skills in geometry, trigonometry, unit conversions, quantity take-offs and basic bills of material.Advanced verbal and written communication skill.Experience in Tekla preferredOrganizational Structure and LocationOrganizational level: T3Reports to Project Engineering LeadNo direct reportsLocation: Calgary Office (in-person)Skills and BehaviorsBusiness presence and polishKnowledge of CB&I products and marketsProactively identifies and solves the complex problemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsMentally agile and ability to multi-task and manage tight deadlinesProven negotiating ability with high emotional intelligence and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated business partnering skills with the ability to influence the organizationAdaptability and agility to learn and contribute in varying and complex environmentsA mature business and technical acumen coupled with a drive to achieve resultsExceptional communication and presentation skill, both written and verbalAbility to work and build credibility across the business, up to and including senior management levelProactively embraces and promotes the company's values and culture, including diversity & inclusion and a healthy and safe work environmentQuality - Consistent accuracy of drawings and bills of material.Efficiency - Meeting deadlines and staying within budget, leading teammates by example.Teamwork - Communicating pertinent information and questions to project team including technical content, workflow, scheduling with advanced written and verbal communication skills.Forecasting - Making accurately forecasted commitments to the project team and upholding those commitments.
