Assistant Director (Director in Training) About Active Start Childcare Active Start Childcare is a distinguished early learning institution serving children from 12 months through kindergarten. We provide comprehensive daycare, preschool, and before- and after-school programs within state-of-the-art facilities designed to cultivate an inclusive, stimulating, and active environment. Our inquiry-based curriculum fosters curiosity, creativity, and confidence, while emphasizing physical literacy and holistic child development. Carefully designed indoor and outdoor play spaces ensure children remain engaged and active throughout the year, including during Albertas harshest weather. We maintain strong collaborative partnerships with families to support each childs growth and prepare them for sustained success. About the role We are in search of an Assistant Director that will work at both our Sage Hill and Country Hills location. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in child care and leadership roles, coupled with a solid understanding of child development and a commitment to nurturing positive relationships with both children and colleagues. The individual will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational prowess, and proficiency in computer skills. They should exhibit high levels of motivation, adaptability, and fluency in English, along with strong leadership abilities, multitasking capabilities, and extensive knowledge of child development principles. Professionalism is paramount, and familiarity with Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Regulations is essential. We are looking for individuals who have at least 2 years of experience in a Director role, or 5 years in an Assistant Director type role. Candidates must possess an Alberta Child Care Level 3 certification, as well as a current criminal record check (including a vulnerable sector search) and first aid certification, or be prepared to obtain these credentials upon employment. Due to the size and fast-paced nature of our programs, which accommodate over 500 children at each center daily, we begin our Directors as Assistant Directors. This approach allows them to acclimate to the large centers and become well-versed in our company culture and operational methods. We are seeking an individual who will initially assume the role of Assistant Director, with the intention of transitioning to a Director position. What you'll do Overseeing the programming, ensuring the implementation of our core program through observation and mentoring, and day to day operations of the programs. Maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety within the environment. Providing tours to prospective families on occasion. Answering phone calls and emails. Ensuring resources and materials for planning and implementation. Providing regular communication to parents through monthly newsletters and daily updates. Cultivating positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Working together in a management team and supporting the educators. Adhering to Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Regulations and Active Start's policies and procedures to ensure quality care. Qualifications Minimum of two years experience in a supervisor or director role in childcare. Level 3 Child Care Certification (or equivalent) Previous experience with OHS, Fire Safety Requirements, and Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Professional, adaptable, and fluent in English Proficiency in computer applications and administrative systems Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations (preferred) Current Criminal Record Check and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain these credentials upon employment) Why Join Active Start?
