The Opportunity Postmedia is looking for a photographer/multimedia journalist with strong photo & video capabilities to capture compelling visual stories that inform and engage our audiences, primarily focused on political coverage on Parliament Hill. Working as part of a collaborative newsroom team including reporters, editors, and multimedia specialists, the candidate will cover federal politics, press conferences, policy developments, Question Period debates, and related events in Ottawa, producing high-quality photographs and videos. The primary focus of this role is delivering timely visual content that enhances political storytelling across our websites and publications while adapting to fast-paced deadlines in a 24/7 news environment. What you'll do Capture photographs and videos at political events, interviews, and assignments on Parliament Hill. Edit and process photos and videos using industry-standard software. Collaborate with reporters and editors to develop visual narratives for political coverage. Contribute to team planning for coverage of major political events. Build a library of images and videos from Parliament Hill coverage. Who you are Exceptional photography skills with a strong portfolio demonstrating news judgment, composition, and lighting expertise; experience in political or government-related coverage, such as Parliament Hill events including Question Period, is a bonus but not required. Proficiency in video shooting, editing, and production; comfortable with multi-camera interview setups and sound management. Experienced in operating video microphones and audio gear to capture and manage high-quality sound in fast-paced news settings. Strong storytelling abilities through visuals, with an eye for detail and the capacity to convey emotion, context, and nuances in news settings. Familiarity with access protocols, security clearances, and media pools for events like those on Parliament Hill is an asset. Ability to prioritize assignments independently in high-pressure situations; knowledge of Canadian federal politics and Parliament Hill dynamics is preferred but not essential. Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro; and photo management systems such as Photo Mechanic, Lightroom, or Adobe Bridge.
