Job Description

Dexter Construction, a division of The Municipal Group of Companies, is currently seeking the knowledge and expertise of a Project Manager/ Estimator.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Prepare cost estimates for construction projectsPrepare public and private tender packages for review and submittalDocument equipment and manpower requirements, and review of the estimate for completeness of take-off, scope and pricing.Prepare schedules and job hand off for packages for awarded worksProject execution team support including subcontractor coordination, site meetings, scheduling, and contract administrationProvide necessary documents to field superintendents, foremen and Project Coordinators in a timely manner and follow up on all open action items.Provide on-going support to field personnel to help identify and remove obstacles that impact construction progress, resolve challenges with respective owners and to identify and implement profit improvement strategies to the job, as neededLiaise actively with project delivery teams to identify, develop, and submit change ordersDevelop, maintain, and regularly review up-to-date project progress information, including Critical Path scheduling, work in progress reports, and analysis of all job costsOversee control of project cost by development of project budget with the estimatorRead blueprints to estimate project cost effectivelyCommunicate and collaborate with departmental leaders to stay abreast of construction needs, budgeting, and evaluation of possible bidsReview project job cost reports regularly and ensure project profitability.Review time sheets, all purchase orders, delivery tickets, subcontractor requisitions, and invoices to ensure that they are coded correctly for project costing.Visit project sites daily for troubleshooting and for the purposes of ensuring project quality.Initiate and review regular project billingIs responsible for the overall safety of all manpower working on the contract, proactively supports the corporate safety program and sets a positive exampleDevelops, chairs and initiate all job closeout activities, including preparation of as-built drawings, retaining release from subcontractors, ensuring warranty information provided to owner, final payment quantities and payment and recovery of holdbackPerform other duties as required.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:University degree in Civil or Resource Engineering, or other related discipline is an asset2-5 years of similar experience preferredPrevious experience estimating public and private tenders an asset along with experience managing projectsPrevious experience in the heavy civil construction an assetKnowledge of various Estimating and construction software including Bid2Win, Bluebeam, Excel etc. is an assetAbility to work as part of an estimating/construction teamStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsProfessional attitude, punctual, assertive, and personableHigh level of sound and independent judgment and reasoningAbility to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgencyWorking Conditions:Required to work long office hours and use a computer. Field work and company site visits will frequently be required, and will require the use of minimum PPE (Hardhat, Steel Toe Boots, reflective vest, etc.).
