Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Intermediate Electrical Engineer, Power Generation to join our dynamic team in one of our Alberta or Ontario offices, supporting fossil fuel power generation projects across North America. The successful candidate will provide both engineering/design services and Owners Engineer (OE) consulting services, supporting projects from conceptual design through construction and commissioning. This role involves leadership and handson execution of electrical engineering work for power generation facilities, including simple cycle peakers, combined cycle plants, and associated highvoltage substations, power distribution, and balance of plant (BOP) systems. What you can expect to do Lead and contribute to electrical engineering design for thermal power generation projects from concept through commissioning. Support and deliver OE consulting services, ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory standards. Perform and lead electrical system studies including load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and grounding. Develop specifications, perform calculations, and lead procurement of major electrical equipment such as generators, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, UPS systems, and protection relays. Interface with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electrical requirements within mechanical and process equipment packages. Manage purchase orders, supplier interfaces, FATs, and ensure supplier quality compliance. Provide construction and commissioning support, including field issue resolution, punch list development, and startup support. Ensure designs comply with Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and National Electrical Code (NEC) where applicable. Prepare and review technical documentation: singleline diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and reports. Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, project managers, and team members. Mentor junior and intermediate engineers. What youll bring to WSP Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent). Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.). Minimum of 58 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering for power generation facilities. Strong knowledge of power island equipment, highvoltage substations, power distribution systems, and BOP systems. Experience with CEC and NEC standards. Proficiency in electrical system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower). Familiarity with procurement processes, vendor coordination, FATs, and construction support. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Willingness to travel periodically across the US and Canada for site visits. Prior experience in an Owners Engineer or consulting role. Experience in both greenfield and brownfield projects. Familiarity with North American utility interconnection requirements. Strong leadership, organizational, and mentorship skills.
