The Oshawa Mary Street YMCA is one of nine full service health and fitness centres across the Greater Toronto area. Reporting to the H&F Programs Director, the Programs Representative Individual Conditioning is responsible for ensuring service excellence and assists in the supervision and safe operation of these programs and spaces, ensuring the YMCA of Greater Toronto regulations, National YMCA standards, and SAM expectations are met. The Personal Trainer provides oneonone specialized training. This position may also provide program coverage when required in all areas of Individual Conditioning (Fitness Assessment, Small Group Program delivery, Individual Program Design, Free Weight and Conditioning Room Orientations, etc.) and assists in all Health and Fitness program areas ensuring that all members have a positive experience in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment. Responsibilities Deliver programs, including mYfitness, and assist participants in the individual conditioning area with a focus on building and facilitating relationships Provide overall support to Member experience in Conditioning areas (including Membership Plus if applicable) as needed, ensure workout areas are maintained, and respond to member requests or concerns Clean and maintain equipment during shifts and report any repairs or work orders to supervisor Conduct Program area counts, take attendance and inventory checks as required Ensure that outstanding programs are provided for all members; YMCA Individual Conditioning Best Practices (as outlined by Priority S.A.M.) are followed Recruit and mentor volunteer instructors for Individual Conditioning Deliver Personal Training sessions in small group and oneonone format in a manner that is consistent with YMCA standards, mission, values, goals and practices, including Priority Sam Standards Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented and monitored to ensure safe and effective member and volunteer participation Prepare and set up program equipment/rooms and clean and tidy up equipment/rooms after use, reporting any repairs to supervisor Organize and administer a case management approach in managing relationships with participants and ensure they are comfortable and successful in the program to assist them to achieve their personal health goals Utilize systems and technologies available in the YMCA to deliver Personal Training and track required information Track client attendance Manage client and potential client communication in a timely and professional manner, adhering to best practices as determined by YMCA policies and procedures Provide reports and additional information to supervisor when requested General YMCA Responsibilities Build relationship with members and seek opportunities to share the YMCA story and educate members and guests on the YMCA as a Charity Develop a rapport with volunteers and other staff, building positive relationships Help members to achieve their personal health and fitness related goals by referring them to various programs and services as appropriate Provide information about and encourage participation in other YMCA areas and programs, such as group fitness classes, sports, childrens programs or other services in the building (Employment, Child Care) or assist members in finding answers to questions by referring them to correct sources Ensure qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and regulatory standards are current at all times Are available for the minimum required commitment of hours as determined by the supervisor based on centre needs Actively participate in scheduled training, meetings and special events Perform other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members as assigned from time to time by supervisor Programs Representative Individual Conditioning Qualifications Enrolled in or completion of a University or College program, majoring in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation Leadership or related field preferred YMCA Group Fitness Leaders Certification an asset Enrolled in or completion of Personal Training certification an asset Personal Trainer Qualifications Certified Personal Trainer and/or YMCA Personal Training Certification (or equivalent) University or College program, majoring in Kinesiology, or related field equivalent an asset Previous experience in developing individual fitness programs and coaching individuals to achieve results Ability to instruct various group fitness classes an asset Sales and/or customer service experience, preferably in a membership/client based environment an asset Excellent written communication skills Ability to encourage and motivate members, and volunteers, acknowledge and appreciate achievements and contributions General YMCA Qualifications Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR C level C Welldeveloped interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging Flexibility regarding work schedules, including days, evenings and weekends What You Need to Succeed Commitment to the YMCAs Mission, Vision and Values Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services YMCA Competencies: Accountable, Relationship-Builder, Improvement-Orientated, Team Player & Leader, Equity and Wellbeing Promoter Why work for the YMCA?
