Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Assistant, Emergency: You will independently carry out prescribed rehabilitation therapy programs under the supervision of a licensed occupational or physical therapist. You will perform administrative duties and assist with equipment cleaning as required. You will communicate professionally with patients and staff, lead group sessions, and motivate patients to participate. On-the-job responsibilities Carry out exercise programs with patients on an individual or group basis and assist with gait training as prescribed by the physiotherapist Carry out appropriate patient transfers and demonstrate safe lifting techniques and proper body mechanics to nursing staff and patients families as instructed by the therapist Carry out activities of daily living (ADL) training with patients to facilitate independence as prescribed by the occupational therapist Assist patients in setting up strength training equipment Record statistics Maintain equipment inventory Qualifications Diploma from an accredited community college Occupational Therapy Assistant/Physiotherapy Assistant (OTA/PTA) program Experience in medical inpatient acute settings and/or related experience working with geriatric populations in rehabilitation Ability to work effectively with supervising therapist Experience leading group sessions and motivating patients to participate Experience working in a physically demanding, fast-paced, challenging environment Ability to apply physiotherapeutic modalities Bilingualism in French/English is an asset What We Offer Working at NYGH means working with a dynamic team of healthcare providers, staff and volunteers in one of Canadas leading hospitals.
