Supervisor, Claims Administration Supervisor, Claims Administration Job ID #31467 reports to the Manager, Risk Management Services. The position oversees the claims investigation and resolution program for the City of Hamilton, leading a team of claims representatives and examiners. Responsibilities Provide supervision and performance evaluation of Claims Representatives and Examiners. Oversee the claims investigation and resolution program, providing advice and direction to staff and contracted adjusters. Directly handle complex or significant claims files. Attend claims litigation, mediation, and arbitration proceedings as client representative for the City. Maintain highlevel communication with legal counsel, City insurers and reinsurers on all types of property and casualty claims. Provide input regarding performance and service level agreements to the Manager and Corporate Risk Compliance Officer. Act as primary Risk Management lead for recommendations on claim settlements to Senior staff and Council. Assist in monitoring and evaluation of corporate department losscontrol initiatives. Assist in the development and preparation of informational newsletters and RMS budget items. Ensure integrity of RMS software data base and system reports. Develop and maintain a Corporate Risk Management Manual in consultation with staff. Participate in professional associations and attend workshops to exchange risk management and insurance information. Negotiate with agents, brokers and insurance companies regarding premiums, terms, and renewals. Conduct departmental procedural audits and report to the Manager. Assist with budget chargeback allocations and financial reporting to senior management, Council committees and Council. Respond to and resolve inquiries from the public, employees and elected officials. Provide oncall coverage during offwork hours for urgent matters or city emergencies. Represent City in Emergency Control Group and attend required training. Demonstrate knowledge of the Health and Safety Act and apply safety procedures to duties. Perform other duties as directed by the Manager that are related to the normal job function. Qualifications Progressively responsible risk management experience, normally obtained through completion of a University Degree in Business or a combination of equivalent education and experience. Canadian Risk Management designation (CRM) desired or equivalent experience. Chartered Insurance Professional designation (CIP) or equivalent experience. Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations: Municipal Act, Negligence Act, Occupiers Liability Act, Insurance Act, Minimum Maintenance Standards. Extensive working knowledge of insurance, government administration, risk management principles, statistics, budgeting, legal proceedings, supervision and training. Experience in a computerized environment; proficiency in Word, Excel, database software and PowerPoint. Senior risk management involvement: analysis of insurance policies, coverages, premiums, loss statistics, loss prevention, finance and contract law. Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Extensive reportwriting experience. Valid Class G drivers licence and own vehicle for use on the job. Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality.
