Job Description SGS is currently looking for Welding Inspectors in multiple locations. Work will be assigned on an as-needed basis and will be paid for the hours/days and other applicable cost items for the hours/days spent on the assigned work. The work duration could be a day or several days or several weeks. The Welding Inspector is the Companys authorized representative and is responsible to ensure the company follows all welding regulations, company policies and specifications. The Welding Inspector inspects and ensures that proper welding and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) procedures are qualified and utilized, the NDE personnel used are certified, the welders are qualified, sound welds are produced, and proper documentation is maintained. These activities must be performed in accordance with the Company requirements. Responsibilities Using stop work authority, immediately stop work activity, notify Contractor supervision of unsafe conditions and/or acts, and ensure all site personnel are aware of their obligation to do so. Ensure that the contractor is implementing their Project Site-Specific Safety Plan (P/SSSP). Ensure that the contractor is following applicable welding requirements for the project. Review and understand contractor Safe Work Practices & Job Safety/Hazard Analysis for the work they are assigned to oversee and hold contractor accountable to execute the work per the procedures. This includes participation in daily tailgate/tailboard meetings and field level hazard assessments (FLHA). Oversee the welding activities to ensure compliance (e.g., drawings, specifications, codes, standards, regulations, contractors site-specific quality plan/contract) and that the Contractor is using proper PPE for welding activities. Work with the contractor to ensure stakeholder and local community commitments within their scope are tracked and implemented. Ensure ITPs are completed as the work progresses and relevant documentation is reviewed and accepted by the client. Create and foster a positive work environment and a proactive safety culture within the inspection staff. Achieve successful execution of the welding scope and all desired outcomes and deliverables. Monitor construction and, as required, influence corrective action with the Contractor. Identify and report construction non-conformance issues. Provide leadership and guidance to welding personnel. Records management associated with welding documentation. Ensure design deviations are properly redlined and drawings are sent to the Construction Manager for as-building. Identify innovation and value creation opportunities related to construction. Participate in lessons learned and close-out meetings. Verify that the Contractors Quality Program is being followed. Complete daily inspection reports in accordance with applicable Company Inspection Standards. Qualifications 8-10 years of Welding / Welding Inspection experience on pipelines or industrial facilities. Very strong knowledge of and experience with industry processes and procedures. API 1169 certified. API 1184 certified. High school diploma. Knowledge of the latest welding codes and standards (CSA Z662 and/or ASME B31.3). CSA W178.2 Level 1 CSA W178.2 Level 2 Oil and gas pipeline and industrial facilities experience. Nice To Have B-Pressure Welding Experience (Alberta, CA). Experience supervising, coaching, mentoring teams of weld inspectors. Degree, Diploma, or Certification as an Engineer, Technician or Technologist in Welding or NDE / NDT. Discipline Engineer, Technician, Red Seal Journeyman or Designated Specialist. CSA W178.2 Level 2. CGSB NDT Level 2.
