Job Description The Canadian Press is seeking a Reporter-Editor in Toronto to help produce video content, including sourcing user-generated and social-media material. Location : Toronto We are looking for someone with a background in visual journalism and strong news judgment, who can prioritize multiple ongoing tasks. The ideal candidate thrives in a daily newsroom and has a proven ability to create compelling news stories. Theyre a news hunter who not only knows what a great story looks like but can also see a pitch through to a final product. Theyre just as comfortable crafting a text story as they are producing a video explainer. This position may involve shift work including weekends, nights and holidays. Responsibilities Lead the production of news videos from the idea phase to publication. Work to source, acquire, validate and produce user generated content around daily news and events that meet CPs editorial standards. Find trending / viral stories that can be turned into CP content. Monitor press conferences, suggest clips / quotes for video and provide timecode / direction for video editors. Review video material gathered by Canadian Press staff and identify key quotes / timecodes / footage. Write / edit video caption metadata information. Review produced videos created by Canadian Press staff and oversee edits. Effectively follow news tips and generate story ideas. Create text and audio content, when required. Skills Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines. Knowledge of videography and video editing processes as well as aptitude for learning new technology. Strong news judgment and knowledge of all types of news: sports, general, political. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team. Fluency in both official languages would be an asset. Requirements 3-5 years of experience working in a daily news environment; experience with a news agency would be an asset.
