Ontario, Canada Job Family Group : Process Engineering Worker Type : Regular Posting Start Date : October 27, 2025 Business unit : Downstream and Renewables Experience Level : Experienced Professionals Job Description Shell is seeking a Senior Operations Support Engineer to join their team at the Shell Sarnia Refinery. This role provides process engineering support to the 24/7 production organization, ensuring excellence in process safety, reliability, margin, energy optimization, and cost management. The engineer works closely with the Production Team to provide technical assurance for unit operations and to support the delivery of the production plan. Additionally, the role plays a key part in continuous improvement, project development, and turnaround planning and execution. The Operations Support Engineer is typically assigned specific process units to support as part of an area Production Team. At times, the engineer may instead be assigned to key studies, projects, or improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will join the Sarnia Process Engineering Team and will be assigned an area of support based on their experience and available opportunities. In addition, this role currently offers a hybrid schedule with the ability to work remotely 2 days per week, and the other 3 days per week from the Shell Sarnia refinery. Responsibilities Perform proactive technical monitoring and ensure units operate within limits Troubleshoot operating issues Build management of change for small and medium unit changes Identify and communicate threats and opportunities to performance and reliability Provide technical expertise and optimization strategies to meet business goals, including feed/product quality and energy/cost efficiency Lead unit alarm reviews and support alarm management Apply factbased root cause analysis to investigate and resolve threats Provide technical input to turnaround and major maintenance activities: scope development, challenge, and shutdown/startup procedures, and inspections Develop investment proposals for capital unit items in discipline Support capital projects through commissioning Collaborate across disciplines to meet HSSE requirements with costeffective, fit-for-purpose solutions Active participation in Process Hazard Analyses to assess and mitigate safety risks Mentor junior process engineers Provide technical signoff and P.Eng approval for work in own unit and for junior engineers supporting other units Serve as part of the emergency response team, with the potential to be on call as needed What you bring Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a fulltime basis for anyone other than current employer Must have a bachelors degree in engineering, preferably in Chemical Engineering Must hold a Professional Engineering (P.Eng) designation in Canada At least 7 years relevant experience in a similar role, ideally in an operating oil and gas asset or in projects/design Demonstrates sufficient technical expertise to approve the work of junior process engineers Causal reasoning training is an asset Ability to work outside of regular hours to support turnarounds and emergencies Ability to be rostered on call as part of the emergency response team If you dont see yourself fully reflected in every job requirement listed in the posting above, we still encourage you to reach out and apply.
