Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. Position Position Overview The role of the Principal Accounant is to lead and give strategic direction to financial and accounting functions at New Afton mine site. To ensure processes, procedures, compliance, and systems contribute to the successful execution of the mine's business plan, optimize costs and enhance shareholder value. To work with the senior management team in determining the overall financial strategy of the mine. To optimize the allocation of resources, operating and capital costs and the stewardship of company assets. Responsibilities Lead the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams including hiring, performance feedback and professional development of the teams. Manage the financial reporting process by applying and providing expert accounting advice Compile and review monthly financial information that assists reporting groups in preparing reports for statutory reporting requirements Effectively communicate with site personnel to ensure detailed accounting and reporting requirements are being met and that accounting and reporting deadlines are behind adhered to. Ensure the site has strong financial controls based in Sarbanes-Oxley act, in place to meet its compliance obligations by maintaining robust accounting and administration systems. Liaise and assist both internal and external audit Manage cash requirements for the site Lead with a safety first mindset, participate and facilitate safety meetings Attend project and operations meetings and discussions with key personnel to maintain awareness of operations and project activities. Qualifications As a people leader, the individual selected will have demonstrated the ability to : Present a united front to the organization and lead in an aligned manner Role model our values and culture and do so with care and compassion Actively listen, engage, and demonstrate the utmost respect, and integrity and work with others in an inclusive way Foster diverse perspectives to actively identify new ways of working, have the courage to try new things, learn from mistakes and drive innovation Provide coaching and timely feedback to grow their team, expand their capabilities and foster growth Recognize and celebrate success and encourage a winning attitude across the organization In addition, the successful candidate will possess : Degree in Accounting or related discipline CPA Designation is preferred Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, preferably in the mining industry Experience with IFRS and legislative requirements strongly preferred Knowledge in BC taxes (PST, Fuel & Carbon Tax) Ability to engage and influence senior leaders and other key stakeholders Clear written and verbal communication Self-motivated, team player with a positive attitude and ability to give direction Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and keep to a schedule Extensive experience with the Microsoft Office suite Knowledge and experience using SAP BPC, or similar business planning software Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including : Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen Provide proof of a valid Class 5 drivers license Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements Compensation & Benefits The anticipated salary for this position will be between $130,000 to $150,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
