Desktop Applications & Automation SpecialistLocation: Toronto (Downtown Core Hybrid, 3 Days Onsite) Overview:Our client, a 100+ year old global professional firm, is seeking a Desktop Applications & Automation Specialist to help streamline and modernize critical IT applications and processes, ensuring efficiency and reliability across a Microsoft-based environment.This hybrid role requires 3 days per week onsite in downtown Toronto, making it ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, building sophisticated automation solutions, and working with a high degree of independence. Youll play a key role in supporting enterprise applications and related services through deep technical knowledge of software application support, system administration, and service delivery.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, maintain, and enhance advanced PowerShell scripts to automate manual IT processes across the organization.Build and deploy application packages and task sequences to manage Windows 11 image distribution, including Group Policy Object (GPO) management.Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize existing and newly developed PowerShell scripts to ensure stability, performance, and accuracy.Support and integrate Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) to enhance automation initiatives.Configure and optimize Windows 11 operating systems, ensuring alignment with organizational standards.Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for all developed scripts, workflows, and system configurations.Collaborate with the broader IT team to understand requirements, test solutions, and deploy changes while maintaining autonomy in scripting and delivery.Develop plans and coordinate the installation and upgrade of applications in collaboration with internal IS resources and business stakeholders.Perform other related duties as required.Education & ExperienceUniversity degree in Computing, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.Minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical systems or application administrator role.Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.Knowledge & Skills2+ years of proven, hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting for packaging and deployment not merely operational support.Demonstrated ability to build, troubleshoot, and maintain complex PowerShell scripts in enterprise environments.Strong knowledge of MECM/SCCM, including software distribution, OSD, and patch management.Solid understanding of Windows OS architecture, deployment, and management.Experience with GPO management and automating related tasks through PowerShell.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving complex issues.Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and drive projects to completion.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.Experience with Microsoft Intune and modern device management concepts is an asset.Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with a customer-focused mindset.Ability to multitask, set priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment.Knowledge of legal applications and enterprise infrastructure (e.g., Citrix XenApp, Remote Desktop Services, Active Directory, virtualization) is an asset.
