One of our major clients is looking for an HSE Advisor to join their team on a 1-year contract in Kitimat, BC.Position OverviewThe Night Shift HSE Field Advisor is responsible for ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards during night operations at the facility. This role provides visible safety leadership, supports field teams, and ensures that all night shift activities are conducted safely and in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesVisible Safety Leadership & Workforce EngagementAct as the primary HSE contact for all night shift operations, providing guidance and support to employees, contractors, and supervisors.Conduct regular field walks and safety observations to ensure compliance with HSSE policies, procedures, and safe work practices.Lead and participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and shift handovers, ensuring effective communication of safety expectations and learnings.Demonstrate and promote a proactive safety culture, encouraging hazard reporting and continuous improvement.Compliance & Risk ManagementEnforce compliance with CCOHS Acts and Regulations, WorkSafe BC OHS Regulations, Canada Labour Code Part II, and BC Environmental Management Act.Support the operationalization of the Asset HSSE Management system, procedures, and safe work practices.Facilitate and support hazard management processes, including real-time hazard assessments, JHA reviews, and HAZID sessions.Monitor high-risk activities (confined space entry, hot work, lifting, working at heights, etc.) for compliance and intervene as necessary.Ensure all night shift activities are conducted in accordance with Permit to Work, LOTO, and process safety requirements.Incident & Emergency ResponseLead or participate in incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.Support emergency response drills and act as Safety Officer during night shift emergencies.Maintain readiness to respond to incidents, including medical emergencies, process upsets, and environmental releases.Contractor & Project OversightMonitor contractor HSSE performance, conduct audits, and review contractor JHAs and risk assessments.Participate in contractor safety meetings and ensure that safety information and investigation learnings are cascaded to all night shift personnel.Support onboarding and orientation of new night shift workers and contractors.Fatigue & Wellbeing ManagementImplement and monitor fatigue management strategies, ensuring adequate rest periods and break schedules for all night shift personnel.Promote mental health and wellbeing resources, recognizing the unique challenges of night shift work.Ensure ergonomic workstations, proper lighting, and access to safe break areas.Data, Reporting & Continuous ImprovementCollect and analyze safety data, incident reports, and safety observations from night shift operations.Prepare and submit nightly HSSE performance reports, highlighting trends, issues, and recommendations.Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback on night shift-specific risks and opportunities.Regulatory & Industry Best Practice AlignmentStay current with updates in WorkSafe BC, CCOHS, and industry standards.Support implementation of digital tools (e.g., VR/AR training, digital field coaching) and automated competency tracking.Ensure compliance with HSSE Management System and contribute to annual reviews and updates.Additional Night Shift Scope ElementsLone Worker Safety: Ensure lone worker protocols are followed, including regular check-ins and emergency communication systems.Reduced Supervision: Provide additional oversight during periods of minimal supervision, ensuring critical tasks are not performed alone.Environmental Monitoring: Conduct environmental checks (noise, emissions, lighting) to ensure compliance and worker safety during night operations.Security Collaboration: Coordinate with site security to address after-hours access, perimeter checks, and incident response.Shift Handover: Ensure comprehensive handover to day shift, documenting ongoing issues, outstanding permits, and safety concerns.Qualifications & Competencies(Recommended)Education & CertificationsPost-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, or related field.NCSO, CRSP, or equivalent certification preferred.Valid First Aid, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, and WHMIS 2015 certifications.ExperienceMinimum 5 years experience in HSE roles, preferably in LNG, oil & gas, or heavy industrial environments.Experience with night shift or rotational work is an asset.Technical SkillsStrong knowledge of Canadian and BC OHS regulations, LNG-specific codes (CSA Z276, Z462), and process safety fundamentals.Proficient in incident investigation, risk assessment, and contractor management.Familiarity with digital safety tools, and reporting systems.Behavioral CompetenciesLeadership, effective communication, conflict resolution, coaching, teamwork, and time management.Ability to work independently, make sound decisions under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities.Working ConditionsNight shift (typically 6:00 PM 6:00 AM), rotational scheduleWork is performed in an industrial plant environment, including
