About the RoleWere seeking an experienced Architectural Department Manager to lead the design and delivery of industrial facilities including factories, warehouses, processing plants, storage buildings, and logistics centres primarily within the food and beverage industry.In this key leadership position, youll oversee architectural design projects from concept to completion, ensuring that each facility is functional, regulation-compliant, and meets client and operational objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & ExecutionPlan, schedule, and execute design projects from concept to completion.Ensure designs meet customer requirements and regulatory compliance.Prepare project proposals and manage design changes with robust document control.Oversee permitting and approval processes across all project phases.Problem Solving & Decision MakingResolve complex design challenges and make informed decisions on materials, structures, and layouts.Optimise designs for functionality, compliance, budget, and timeline.Collaboration & IntegrationWork closely with engineers, contractors, and cross-functional teams.Ensure seamless integration between architectural, structural, and mechanical systems.Leadership & MentorshipLead and mentor a team of technologists.Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.Process Improvement & InnovationContinuously enhance design processes and efficiency.Promote sustainable design practices and stay ahead of emerging trends in industrial architecture.Client EngagementLiaise directly with clients to understand needs, present proposals, and incorporate feedback.Maintain strong, positive relationships throughout the project lifecycle.Reporting StructureReports to: Head of ProjectsDirect Reports: TechnologistsQualifications & SkillsBachelors degree in Architecture.Licensed member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA).Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite (BIM familiarity preferred).Experience with 3D visualisation tools (e.g., Lumion) considered an asset.Strong understanding of Ontario Building Code/National Building Code, Zoning/Municipal Bylaws, and Accessibility Standards.Solid knowledge of building materials, construction methods, and specifications.Experience with governmental agencies, building codes, and zoning processes.Additional certifications such as LEED accreditation, AIA membership, or specialised training in industrial design are advantageous.Familiarity with parametric design, smart building systems, or robotics in construction is a plus.Strong ability to produce detailed working drawings and construction documentation.ExperienceMinimum 5 years experience in architectural design, with proven success managing projects and client relationships.Experience designing industrial/manufacturing or logistics facilities is highly desirable.What Were Looking ForStrong knowledge of design standards, codes, and general engineering principles.Excellent communication and presentation skills.Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and sound judgement.Effective time management and the ability to handle multiple projects.Adaptability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Commitment to confidentiality and professional integrity.Exceptional customer service mindset.Working RelationshipsYoull collaborate closely with:Senior Leadership & DirectorsTechnologists & EngineersProject Managers & Administrative TeamsCustomers, Contractors, and Municipal AuthoritiesBenefits (included but not limited to)Competitive and negotiable salary (to be discussed)Medical and dental benefits (50/50 premium split)Life insurance and AD&DLTDGroup RRSP with employer matching (3% to start, increased to 5% after 5 years, 7% after 10 years)3 weeks vacation to start, 4 weeks after 10 years, 5 weeks after 15 yearsVision credit every 2 yearsWellness credit annuallyOn-site gym, pool table, game nights, company eventsDisclaimer: We are also looking for a Architectural Technologist; if you feel that you're perhaps not quite ready to take on Managerial duties, I encourage you to apply anyway!
