The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is located on the beautiful central east coast of Vancouver Island, incorporating the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, and seven unincorporated electoral areas that lie between Cassidy to the south and Bowser to the north. The RDN is situated within the traditional territories of several First Nations, including Snuneymuxw, Snaw-Naw-As and Qualicum First Nations and recognizes their rich cultural heritage. The RDN is home to approximately 170,000 people and is growing at a very rapid pace. Growth is due in part to a mild coastal climate, diverse ecosystems, and landscapes from the Salish Sea to rugged mountains, easy access to a range of outdoor recreation, and a high quality of life. The RDN is governed by a 19-member Regional Board, comprised of 12 directors from locally elected municipal councils, and seven directors elected by Electoral Area residents. Board members also sit on various regional select and standing committees for key services, as well as the RDN Committee of the Whole. About the Role Reporting to the General Manager, Development + Emergency Services, the Manager, Emergency Services is responsible for the administration and management of the emergency services program, including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities for the RDN. Additional areas of responsibility include the management of the 911 services and all Community Safety contribution services. This position plays an integral function to the delivery of the RDNs emergency services and community engagement. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven emergency management leader dedicated to community safety. The ideal candidate brings a degree in emergency management, public or business administration (or related field), with at least six years of local government experience and three years in a supervisory role. They will have hands-on expertise in emergency programs and Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) management, and strong knowledge of provincial legislation, including the BC Emergency Disaster and Management Act and related regulations. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. A Criminal Record Check is required. The salary for this position is $119,593 - $137,239 annually and is supplemented by a competitive total compensation plan.
