Overview Brightside Community Homes Foundation provides affordable rental homes for a community of residents with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. The Board of Directors should be representative of Brightsides resident community, and we are seeking new Board members who can bring their voice to governance, including at least one member with a strong financial background. We value diversity in staff and management, and Board members contribute a range of life and work experiences. Brightside residents include seniors and older adults who live independently, people with disabilities, and families. Many residents have fixed or low income, and some have experienced homelessness or been at risk of homelessness in the past. Brightside is committed to Indigenous and non-Indigenous residents, and the Board is actively engaged in governance that supports reconciliation and relationship-building with First Nations on whose land we operate. We recently approved an Initial Strategy on Truth, Reconciliation and LandBack to guide governance and mandate. We seek Board candidates from diverse communities including Indigenous Peoples, racialized and equity-denied groups, refugees and newcomers, people with diverse abilities, and those who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+. We aim to fill one Board seat with someone who brings a strong professional background in finance. New Board members do not need prior Board experience. Critical skills include alignment with Brightside values, objective thinking, active participation in discussions, and the ability to consider multiple perspectives for consensus-building. We offer Board training and a Board-buddy system for new members. Board members must reside in the Lower Mainland and have knowledge of challenges facing renters in Metro Vancouver. Responsibilities Attend Board meetings (regularly held on the fourth Tuesday of each month). Participate in standing committees, working groups, and other governance activities. Contribute to strategic planning, decision-making, and governance processes in line with Brightsides values. Qualifications No prior Board experience required; strong interest in governance and alignment with Brightsides mission and values. Strong professional background in finance preferred for one Board seat. Desire to engage in open, curious discussions and to support consensus-building. Residence in the Lower Mainland with knowledge of renter challenges in Metro Vancouver.
