Position Type: Contract Support & Maintenance EngagementLocation: Remote (Canada-based; occasional collaboration with client IT teams)Duration: January 2026 December 2027 (with option to renew)Reports to: Technical Lead / Project ManagerPosition OverviewThe SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) will oversee the integrity, performance, and reliability of enterprise database environments. The DBA ensures continuous operation of Microsoft SQL Server 2016 instances, maintains replication between systems, and provides database-level support for application maintenance, reporting, and enhancement activities.Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister and optimize Microsoft SQL Server 2016 databases.Maintain SQL Server Replication ensuring synchronized data flow between systems.Perform database backups, restores, indexing, and integrity checks.Monitor database health, storage, and performance; resolve locking, blocking, and bottlenecks.Develop and maintain T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, triggers, and views.Support SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Report Builder report creation.Participate in contingency and disaster recovery planning.Collaborate with system administrators and developers on deployments and schema updates.Produce and maintain documentation including data dictionaries, change logs, and deployment scripts.Ensure all activities comply with data security and privacy standards.Required Skills and Experience7+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA, including SQL Server 2016.Strong T-SQL development and optimization skills.Experience configuring and troubleshooting SQL Server Replication and SQL Agent jobs.Expertise in SSRS, Report Builder, and query performance tuning.Understanding of .NET data access and integration with web applications.Experience with backup/recovery, database patching, and version control.Familiarity with Windows Server 2016 / IIS environments.Strong documentation and analytical skills.Preferred AssetsMicrosoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator or Data Analyst Associate.Experience in public-sector or large-scale enterprise environments.Familiarity with Azure SQL or hybrid cloud reporting setups.Understanding of data governance and compliance best practices.
