About the Position: This role involves investigations and adherence to BC SPCA policies, regulations, and guidelines. Candidates must be a Special Provincial Constable (SPC) or meet the criteria for appointment. Responsibilities include: Conduct investigations into animal abuse complaints. Ensure timely and detailed investigation records. Carry out cruelty investigations professionally and diplomatically. Maintain records and statistics as per policies. Protect animal welfare and enforce relevant laws. Inspect establishments where animals are kept for sale, hire, or entertainment. Respond effectively to calls, minimizing suffering and injury. Use knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques. Assist statutory authorities as requested. Take custody of animals in distress, abandoned, or ownerless. Prepare notices of disposition and make decisions on critical distress and euthanasia. Gather evidence for offences under applicable legislation. Ensure compliance with legislation and regulations. Report to supervisors and act as a BC SPCA ambassador. Support provincial initiatives and adhere to policies. Participate in fundraising and ensure safety protocols. Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment safely. Coordinate volunteer work and foster teamwork. Participate in meetings and promote humane treatment of animals. Provide animal husbandry support and respond to other calls. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications: Must be 19 years or older. High school diploma required; post-secondary preferred. Valid Class 5 BC drivers license. Completion of BC SPCA Introduction to Cruelty Investigations Course. Pass the SPC and Animal Protection Officer exams. Complete a minimum of 3 Justice Institute courses or equivalents. Basic computer skills and proficiency in BC SPCA Shelter Software. Knowledge of relevant laws and animal characteristics. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Eligibility for appointment as SPC under the Police Act. Ability to work independently and travel throughout the region.
