The typical hiring range for this position is from $70,000 - $80,000 CAD annually; the pay offering is based on location and will vary depending on related education, insurance experience, proven knowledge, skills, and internal equityJob SummaryResidential Real Estate Property Underwriter to maintain and grow multi subscription policies on moderate to complex British Columbia book within delegated underwriting authorities and the offer and acceptance open market.Direct experience as an underwriter is an asset, however many other roles have proven to translate very well and be an asset for this position such as Personal Lines and Commercial Broking experience.Essential Job FunctionsPrimary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:Risk analysis and evaluationKnowledgeable in British Columbia catastrophic exposures and mappingProficient in analyzing data, property valuations, and other risk level data to make informed underwriting decisionsStrong problem-solving skills to identify, analyze and resolve underwriting issues with creative solutions that balance the objectivesUp-to-date knowledge of property insurance market trends, regulations, and industry best practicesStrong understanding of commercial insurance wordings and coveragesWork within established underwriting guidelinesSuperior negotiation skills that drive desired outcomesAbility to be flexibleMaintain a positive attitude and adapt to unexpected challenges during negotiationsAbility to adapt to differing negotiation styles such as collaborative, competitive, and compromising based on the situationUsing facts to drive the desired outcomesCommunicate with confidence and conviction to convey credibilityClearly articulate your requests and preferred resultsCustomer centric mindsetDeveloping and maintaining strong partner relationshipsEffective communication including active listeningConsistency with your approachNetworking with industry colleagues and Acera colleaguesAccount managementArrange and issue submissions, quotations, and endorsementsPrepare and maintain all rating and underwriting toolsMaintain accurate records of all underwriting decisionsLiaison and follow through on all outstanding renewals, terms, conditions, and subjects with SalesSupplementary AbilitiesCreating success in a fast paced and dynamic environmentTeam player with a positive work ethicOrganized with effective time management skillsSelf-directed and ability to coordinate large placements with multiple carriersMeticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistencyCompetencies & QualificationsUniversity degree or equivalent experience in a related fieldCAIB or CIP designation (level II license)Minimum 2 years Insurance industry experienceAcera Insurance is the largest independent, employee-controlled brokerage in Canada.
