Overview Academic Labour Relations within People and Culture is seeking a Fulltime Temporary Relief Consultant for approximately 13 months. The position reports to the Associate Director, Academic Labour Relations. The Consultant will provide guidance and expertise in labour relations regarding academic staff matters, manage projects and conflict in a unionised academic environment, and support the University's strategic goals. Responsibilities Develop and maintain positive problemsolving relationships with union officials, HR professionals, and academic leadership. Provide guidance to HR Partnerships to ensure consistent interpretation and application of collective agreement provisions, labour law, human rights legislation, and employment legislation. Advise on performance management, investigations, discipline, complex disability management, accommodations, and grievance proceedings. Advise on the creation or improvement of academic HR policies and procedures and assist in the implementation of such policies across campus. Investigate, analyze, and prepare briefing documents on academicaffairs issues, including negotiation of letters of understanding and grievance settlements. Provide recommendations and solutions on the management of academic staff to the Associate Director, Employee & Academic Labour Relations for senior leadership. Ensure that labourrelations advice supports the strategic goals of the Provost and VicePresident (Academic) and promotes research and teaching. Research and develop tools, procedures, and training sessions for academic leaders to assist them in administering the collective agreement. Proactively steward the application of the collective agreement through evaluation and reporting. Participate in bargaining of new collective agreements with PDAC and GSA, including drafting language and overseeing implementation. Provide input and guidance on academic career processes, including hiring and assessment. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelors degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years experience in labour relations, including interpreting, applying, and administering collective agreements. Experience with grievances and arbitration. Detailoriented with strong analytical and problemsolving skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish productive working relationships. Aptitude to manage multiple projects within timelines and support implementation of new programs and policies. Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
