Join to apply for the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner (DCME) role at Government of Alberta.Reporting to the Chief Medical Examiner, the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner (DCME) is responsible for assisting with oversight and management of investigations into unexplained natural, unnatural, and reportable deaths in accordance with the Fatality Inquiries Act for the southern region of Alberta. The role involves conducting death investigations, providing expert testimony in court, and overseeing investigations for the Calgary OCME office.This senior leadership position requires inspiring collaboration, guiding the OCME towards service excellence, and ensuring timely, high-quality results. You will mentor and engage your team, build relationships with criminal justice partners, medical professionals, and families, and collaborate with management on HR and staff engagement issues. The Deputy Chief Medical Examiner also acts for the Chief Medical Examiner in their absence.Travel up to 25% or as needed within Alberta and other provinces to provide court evidence, requiring a valid drivers license.QualificationsApplicants should have executive leadership experience in forensic pathology, policy, administration, and finance, plus five (5) years of forensic pathology post-Fellowship. Subspecialist certification in Forensic Pathology and knowledge of medical, forensic, and toxicological aspects of sudden death investigations are required.
