IntroductionBCMEA represents approximately 49 waterfront employers and, by extension, the more than 9,400 people who work for them. BCMEAs customer-members are ship owners and agents, stevedores, container, bulk, break bulk and cruise ship terminal operators. We help optimize our members operations by providing our expertise in labour relations, safety & training, and recruitment of the waterfront workforce.OverviewReporting to the Senior Manager, Safety, the Senior Advisor, Safety & Claims Strategy will lead strategic improvements across multiple employers and third-party claims contractors. The role requires deep technical knowledge of claims and vocational rehabilitation, combined with strong collaboration skills. We are seeking a proactive safety professional with proven experience in claims management and return-to-work (RTW) programs.This position is suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at meeting deadlines, and brings a hands-on, solutions-oriented mindset to safety and claims initiatives.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain a consistent, industry-wide approach to claims management that promotes collaboration and alignment among employers and third-party contractors.Identify and assess successful approaches to claims management within the industry and integrate them into standard operating procedures (SOPs).Develop and maintain comprehensive SOPs for the usage of third-party experts to ensure all contractors operate in alignment with industry standards and expectations.Maintain regular communication with terminal claims representatives as well as third-party contractors to stay informed about ongoing claims, particularly those that are complex or require special attention or appeal.Provide oversight and strategic guidance for claims where the BCMEA acts as the injury employer, ensuring effective management and resolution.Work collaboratively with contractors and employer representatives to strengthen and harmonize RTW programs across the industry.Leverage best practices to promote early and safe return to work.Explore and implement innovative approaches to providing meaningful modified work for injured workers, ensuring safe and efficient reintegration.Oversee vocational rehabilitation initiatives across the industry, supporting workers in training for alternative or transitional roles where appropriate.Lead the creation and maintenance of an industry-wide JDA database to support RTW planning and consistent claims practices.Chair and lead a working group that meets regularly to review complex claims, evaluate RTW program effectiveness, and ensure vocational rehab options are being fully utilized.Proactively jump in to assist with other industry safety initiatives and programs as they arise.Act as a collaborative member of the greater safety team, contributing to overall safety strategy, program development, and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.RequirementsStrong background in claims management.Demonstrated experience in safety management or as a safety generalist with the ability to integrate safety and claims practices.Expertise in vocational rehabilitation and Return to Work (RTW) program design and implementation.Ability to develop, document, and maintain effective standard operating procedures.Strong understanding of Workers Compensation legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.Experience working in a unionized, federally regulated environment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
