Base pay range: CA$50,000.00/yr - CA$70,000.00/yr About Us OTI Lumionics is developing advanced materialsby designusing quantum simulations, machine learning and realworld testing in pilot production. We are currently focused on key enabling materials for OLED displays that will be used in nextgeneration consumer electronics and automotive. Our advanced electrode materials, and associated manufacturing technology, are being used to build transparent displays and lighting. We work closely with our partners and customers to design new materials that are massproduction ready. Using our computational Materials Discovery Platform, we are able to rapidly iterate new materials, allowing fast turn around time to meet our customers needs. Workplace Type Hybrid Primary Responsibilities Communicating with, managing and maintaining records of physical and email correspondence with our outside patent providers, including US and foreign associates and translation providers. Maintaining patent records including docketing of deadlines and organization of patent filings and facilitating transition from existing to new docketing system. Following up with our patent agents and inventors to ensure that all patent deadlines are in hand and are being met. Formatting, proofreading, final review and forwarding of patent filings, including new applications, responses to secure FTP sites and providing filing / renewal instructions to our outside patent providers. Receipt of and summarizing invoices for review and approval by our patent agents. Ensure compliance with environmental policies, procedures, and objectives, and actively participate in the identification and reduction of environmental impacts related to the role. Adhere to health and safety protocols, report hazards, and contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Profile We are looking for a Patent Administrator to assume responsibility for daytoday administrative activities of the IP group, as described above in the Primary Responsibilities section. Most of these responsibilities involve extensive written and some oral communications, primarily in English. Physical attendance at our main office will be required from time to time, both to maintain physical records and to attend group and company meetings. Systematic changes to the new docketing system, including changes in personnel, docketing procedures, and standard deadlines, which are expected to be somewhat frequent in the early stages, but gradually decreasing in frequency as the system reaches a steady state, will require physical attendance at our main office. Accordingly, a demonstrated ability to work independently, without significant supervision will be required. While preference will be given to those with prior patent administrative experience, training and internallydeveloped tools will be made available so that this is not necessarily a required skill. Required Skills Excellent written and oral communication, attention to detail and time management. Excellent computer (Windows), including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and Teams applications, and uploading and downloading from secure FTP sites, and online docketing systems. Preference will be given to candidates having experience with patent principles and terminology, patent and deadline docketing systems and concepts, and/or general legal office practice. Knowledge of and familiarity with mathematical equation and organic chemical symbol preparation systems would be a significant asset. Familiarity with accessing documents and data from patent databases, including USPTO Public and Private PAIR, WIPO PatentScope, Google Patents and patent analysis software (PatSnap) would be beneficial. Ability to communicate orally and in writing in any of: Chinese (simplified and/or traditional), Korean, and/or Japanese would be considered favourably. We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
