Mechanical Design Engineer Waterloo, Ontario Food Processing Equipment- CPG The Company: Our Client is located in Waterloo, Ontario and specializes in food processing equipment technology including mixing, blending, emulsifying, batch cooking, filling, portioning, and linking equipment for meat and food processors. They provide machines, technology, and services for all sizes of sausage filling lines, meat and food processing businesses across many sectors of the food industry. The Opportunity: This position is for the highly motivated individual who has established an excellent understanding of mechanical systems and possesses a strong drive to learn and adapt to their technology. This position will be based out of our Client''s Waterloo, ON office. The individual will possess excellent communication and people skills and will present him/herself in a professional manner when representing the company at all times. The individual must be hands on, technically inclined, able to work independently, work as a team, take direction from others, and have the desire and ability to learn quickly. Key Responsibilities & Job Duties: The essential duties and responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Involvement in all stages of the project including conception, budgeting, quoting, 3D modelling, approval drawings, detailed manufacturing drawings, procurement, vendor management, final assembly, on-site commissioning and after sales support. Balance a workload of multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining deadlines, quality, and budget commitments. Create performance calculations based on product parameters, line speeds/delays and mechanical equipment limitations. Work collaboratively and intuitively with sales team members on all projects. Direct customer interaction. Strong knowledge of the food industry and sanitary design principles. Experience with the design and manufacturing of stainless steel and food grade plastics. Working knowledge of automated equipment. In-depth working knowledge of PTC Creo or similar 3D modeling software. Working knowledge of DraftSight or similar 2D CAD software. Apply detailed tolerancing, including GD&T practices where applicable, ensuring parts assemble and function as intended. Create plant and equipment layout drawings. Adhere to established Engineering workflow including design review, drawing approvals, document control, revision control, BOM generation. Communicate regularly with manufacturing vendors and OEM suppliers, obtaining Quotations and issuing purchase orders. Review inventory shortages for spare parts related to customized solutions and replenish as required. Create and manage work orders for the in-house production and assembly of systems and attachments. Perform minor hands-on modifications to parts by drilling, cutting, grinding, sandblasting as required. Inspect all manufactured components using precise measurement tools and build assemblies according to drawings. Assist with in-house and off-site equipment testing as required. Travel to customer locations to assist with the commissioning process as required Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education, Experience, Knowledge Bachelor''s degree or 3 year diploma in mechanical engineering discipline. Proficient in PTC Creo, or equivalent CAD modelling software. Knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems. Experience with food processing equipment, food automation, and food science a definite asset. Knowledge and capable of operating shop machinery and tools. English language skills required. Proficient with Excel, Word, and ability to work with internal ERP software. Willingness and ability to travel both nationally and internationally as required.
