As the Senior Environmental Health Advisor (SEHA), you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the health of Northwest Territories (NWT) residents. Youll work directly with the Chief Environmental Health Officer and Chief Public Health Officer, shaping environmental public health standards, assessing contaminants, and contributing to policies that make a real difference in communities across the North. Key Responsibilities: Develop, update, and audit environmental public health standards and guidelines. Lead and assess research on environmental contaminants, providing public health risk assessments. Review land use management and resource development proposals for public health implications. Provide technical advice, stakeholder engagement, and public communication regarding contaminants. Represent the Department in interagency and interdepartmental meetings. Supervise staff, manage financial resources, and support staff development and performance management. Qualifications and Experience: Graduate degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (Public Health sector). Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in environmental contaminants, climate change, and/or environmental public health, including one (1) year of contaminants-related research. Certification as a Public Health Inspector in Canada (mandatory). Active membership in good standing with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. Strong knowledge of public health legislation, risk assessment, and evidence-based evaluation methodologies. Equivalencies may include: Bachelor''s degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene or other related field and five (5) years of progressive experience working in the field of environmental contaminants, climate change, and/or environmental public health. Diploma in environmental science, industrial hygiene or other related field and seven (7) years of progressive experience working in the field of environmental contaminants, climate change, and/or environmental public health. Related field: Public Health sector.
