This term assignment has an anticipated start date of January 5, 2026 with an anticipated end date of June 25, 2026. If the selected applicant is a current, permanent EA with the OCSB, they will be hired for the duration of the term and their position at their home school would be held for them, with a casual staff member replacing them for the duration of the term. If the position is not offered to any of the interviewed permanent employees, then the position will be filled with a new or existing casual employee. As the needs of each student differ, the duties of individual Educational Assistants may be different, however, the nature and intent of the position is such that responsibilities will be comparable. Under the direction of the school principal and the instructional supervision of the classroom teacher, the Educational Assistant: provides support in a classroom where there is a child with specific needs to be met (intellectual disabilities, physical or medical conditions, deaf/hard of hearing, blind/low vision, self-regulation concerns, and other special education needs; provides support in the students'' academic development; responds to the students'' physical, emotional and hygienic needs; and acts as a team member of the school in any area which may directly assist the assigned student(s), or may contribute to the educational program as a whole; and performs other duties, as assigned. Required Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills: a secondary school diploma; a 2 year Community college diploma in a related field (ex.DSW,CYW, SSW or a University Degree in a child related field of study); 2 years of related experience. In addition, the following will be considered an asset: knowledge of PICS, PECS, ABA, signing, Braille; special feeding techniques; CPR/First Aid, CPI (NCI) and Diabetic Monitoring; the ability to show initiative; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to establish a rapport with children. Individuals who possess an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered. This is a 10-month term position with an annual salary range of approximately $49,117 to $52,809 ($32.63 to $35.08 per hour) (to be prorated to reflect the length of the term) with an anticipated start date of January 5, 2026.
