Our client, a well-established international brand in the hospitality industry, is seeking to add a n Employment Lawyer to their expanding team in a unique, split-function Legal & HR Management role. As Legal Director, People & Culture, you will split your time working on employment law/employee relations matters, as well as overseeing various HR business teams, strategy, and cross-department collaboration. Responsibilities Handling and managing complex employment law and employee relations cases, including terminations, workplace investigations, human rights matters, etc. Leading the direction of the HR, Talent Acquisition, and Learning & Development functions Delegating and providing strategic oversight and direction for the Human Resource team, ensuring the people practices align with culture, operational needs, legal requirements and overall business goals Working together with VP, Legal, to review and discuss compliance, policy governance, and risk management issues Working closely with the TA Manager to help shape recruitment strategy, refine employment brand, enhance recruitment experiences, and ensure a high-quality, diverse pipeline Collaborating with L&D Manager to help guide the design, building and evolution of company education to support leadership growth, operational excellence, and internal mobility Actively coaching and mentoring key leaders across the organization to support their growth, clarity, and leadership evolution Creation, management, and oversight of the People & Culture budget Working cross-functionally with Finance and departmental leaders to forecast needs, monitor spend and evaluate return on investment across people initiatives Qualifications J.D. and a member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia or another provincial Bar 8-15+ years of relevant Employment Law experience A strong interest and aptitude for employment-related (HR) business processes, and the desire to be more involved in the business side of employment law Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
